Earth Day 2022

April 22, 2022

This Earth Day, we’re sharing how you can help contribute to making our planet more sustainable and help reduce your carbon footprint. Here are six ways you can do your part to help protect Mother Earth.

1. Use alternative transport
Transportation these days emit pollutants which damage the environment and contribute to global warming. We can change this by reducing the number of vehicles on the road thereby reducing pollutants. Consider using low carbon travel such as buses, trains or bicycles to limit the amount of greenhouse gases being produced. The more people using alternative, greener transportation, the less cars there will be on the roads meaning less pollutants and a happier planet.

2. Turn off your devices
Appliances such as TV’s, PCs and phone chargers all use electricity when plugged in unless they are turned off at the wall socket. You can reduce your carbon footprint by turning these appliances off at the source when you aren’t using them reducing your electricity consumption. If you can, get a smart meter which can track your energy use and CO2 emissions so you can better see how much energy you’re using and how best to reduce your carbon footprint.

3. Upgrade light bulbs
By upgrading your light bulbs to energy efficient LED light bulbs you can save money and energy. LED bulbs use considerably less energy and last much longer than standard light bulbs meaning you’re paying less on both your energy bills and new bulbs while also reducing your carbon footprint and wastage from spent light bulbs.

4. Switch to renewable energy
By switching to renewables you get your energy from sources that produce less greenhouse gases and come from a more sustainable source. These days, renewable energy sources are becoming much more prevalent, with wind farms, solar panels and more providing energy to homes and businesses. By switching out, you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint and helping to contribute to further growth of renewable energy sources.

5. Recycle
Reduce, reuse, recycle, how we deal with our waste can have a huge effect on our carbon footprint. By reducing the amount of waste we produce and choosing longer lasting, renewable products we can decrease the amount of waste being sent to landfill, save money on having to replace old products and even repurpose them into something else to continue getting use out of them for example gluing together a broken mug to make into a plant pot or ornament. Other items you could even donate rather than getting rid of, as the saying goes “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

6. Grow your own food
One way to reduce your carbon footprint is by growing your own foods in a garden or maybe even a conveniently provided mushroom grow kit provided by a certain mushroom company. By growing your own food, you can reduce your consumption of mass produced foods thereby reducing your carbon footprint, you can also save money on purchases and have the satisfaction of eating food you’ve grown yourself. Try starting out with something small to supplement your meals and maybe advance to growing your own vegetables in a garden or green house. Want a head start? Why not purchase one of our Mushroom Garden Grow Kits and try growing your own mushrooms in this all in one package. Use code EarthDay for 10% off.
